Tips to help you find your ancestors....
- The Oklahoma Genealogical Society web site has tons of useful information!
- There is an 1890 Union Soldier's & Widows census on microfilm
at the Historical Society Library
- The Bureau of Land Management has
copies of the Patents that were issued to homesteaders
The Federal government issued "Patents" instead of deeds to people who settled in the 30 federal land states, including Oklahoma. These give the legal description, file numbers, dates and are signed by the President of the US. With this information, you can contact the National Archives, fill out form 84 and for a small fee receive the Land Entry papers for your ancestor.
The address for land patents is: www.glorecords.blm.gov
