Dear members:
Seven members of the Oklahoma Genealogical Society, including 3 members of the 1889ERS Society, attended the National Genealogical Society Conference in Richmond, VA May 16-19. OGS had a booth (#100) and gave out brochures, maps, rose rocks, etc. Also, we showed the short "Oklahoma Rising" video provided by the Centennial Commission. It was projected onto a poster board about 3 feet square and got lots of attention.
I can't tell you how many people watched the video and said, "That can't be Oklahoma." Of course, we assured them every picture, except the one of a space shuttle launch, was indeed taken in Oklahoma. Many people stopped by just to tell us they were glad we were there, tell about their Oklahoma connections, ask questions about Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Genealogical Society or the 1889ERS Society or get advice on doing research in OK.
Those of us who went enjoyed the various lectures and, most of all, meeting people and talking about our beautiful state. Although it is quite expensive, we may do it again next year.
