The Life and Times
of Orus Frederick Beil I was born on Saturday, September 6, 1913 in the second house built on my Grandfather and Grandmother Robert D. Steele and Alice Alameda Moore Steele's 1889 homestead, a 160 acre farm located SW Y. of Section 21, Township 11 North Range 3 West of Indian Meridian Oklahoma County. My Sister, Dorothy Beil was also born in this house on March 23, 1908. I had learned my ABC's and most of the multiplication tables before starting to a one room school house called Praire Queen located on the Northeast corner of Southwest 59th and Western Ave. in Oklahoma City, a part of my Grandparents 160 acre homestead. I received a Certificate for Excellence in spelling on May 26, 1922, and also received a Punctual and Regular Attendance Award of Honor having been neither tardy nor absent during the entire school year of 1922. I again received Excellence in Spelling on May 25, 1923. My Father, Frederick Henry Beil died from Typhoid Fever July 27, 1925. My Mother, Maude Edna (Steele) Beil had a public farm sale and sold everything we no longer needed. We moved to 635 G Street which is now SW 29th Street. My mother got a job cooking in the Capitol Hill Junior High School Cafeteria. My Sister started to Hills Business College and I got a newspaper route with the Oklahoman. My route covered Poplar and Locust Streets from Walker to the Santa Fee railroad tracts. This was the evening newspaper and it was delivered six days a week. The customer cost was 60 per week, allowing me to make 30 per week and the company kept 30 per week.. I had three different Oklahoman and Times paper routes in different parts of the northwest part of town. Other schools I attended were Lee Grade School, located at SW 29th and Walker, Eugene Field Grade School, Roosevelt Junior High, and I graduated from Central Senior High School (Oklahoma High School) on May 25th, 1933. I met Eltrie Eula Snow at a dance class at the Trianon Ballroom located at the NW corner of California and Walker Avenue. I started attending Grace Methodist Church at NE loth and Stonewall with Eltrie and later became a member. After deciding to elope, Eltrie and I were married at El Reno Methodist Church by Rev. Percy W. Beck on June 24th, 1933. We were married 74 years as of June 24'h, 2007. During our marriage we developed Beil Park Addition to Oklahoma City located on my grandparents original homestead. Eltrie and I were blessed with four children during our marriage, daughter, Valeda June McCuistion, retired from the State of Oklahoma, son, Frederick Michael Beil, retired commercial electrician from General Motors, a second daughter LuCinda Elenita Melton, United Methodist Pastor, Wellston, OK, and our Foster son Geary Lee West, commercial electrician. We thank the Lord every day for helping us raise our children. We love our children and our sons-in-laws and daughters in laws, our grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I have enjoyed being a member and officer of The 1889ERS Society, descendants of those participating in the Great Land Run of April 22, 1889. I served as a Boy Scout Committeeman for Troop 6 , BSA, in 1956. This Troop was sponsored by First Methodist Church. I was Troop Master for Troop 6 in 1957 and 1958. My employment included working for Southwest Battery Company, Hostess Milk Company, L.R. Land bricking contractor, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Nehi Bottling Company, and E.G. Stone Auto Supply. When World War II started in 1942, I went to San Antonio Air Force Base Material Area for training as a Junior Aircraft Engine Mechanic. In September, 1942 I returned to Tinker Air Force Base as a Senior Aircraft Engine Mechanic. In November, 1946 I was promoted to Aircraft Reconditioner Inspector and in 1947 to Aircraft Carburetor Repairer. In May of 1950 I became Foreman of Aircraft Engine Fuel Systems and Fuel Injection Pump and Carburetor Repair Sub Unit where I supervised approximately 57 personnel and three Senior Aircraft Carburetor Repairers. From November 1953 to January 1962 I was Foreman of the Fuel and Exhaust Nozzle Sub Unit. From January 1962 to 1970 I was Foreman of Fuel Pump Sub Unit Number 2. Finally, from March 28, 1972 to March 31, 1973, my retirement date, I was Production Controller (Aircraft) for Directorate of Maintenance, Engine Division, Scheduling Inventory Control Branch, Final Assembly and Test Scheduling Section. God has blessed me!
